The video and digital creator space is deeply integrated into our daily media consumption, with platforms like TikTok and YouTube utilizing algorithms to promote engaging and popular posts based on viewers' preferences. Despite this, video and digital creators face problems in identifying what drives the viewers retention or maintaining consistent numbers of views. Richard Wu, Weinberg ‘25 and founder of Consigliere, aims to solve this problem for up-and-coming creators in this space.
Consigliere stemmed from Richard's personal experiences as a content creator when he started a TikTok content page during his freshman year of college, gaining thousands of followers on the app. "I met so many creators and we had many talks about how to best position our content. If we had something that was smart enough to see small changes in visual components and retention, we would be getting into this game with a lot more intelligence," shared Richard.
Joined by Ron Vincent Macam, DePaul ‘26, the Consigliere team targets small to medium-sized creators in their journey of becoming successful influencers through research and interviews. Within the technological realm, Richard recognized that computer vision could identify features within a video, and that AI excels at integrating information and drawing conclusions beyond human detection. Richard asked himself: Why not harness these abilities to develop a model predicting a video's effectiveness in attracting and retaining viewers? This brainstorming of abstract ideas brought the concept of Consigliere to life.
Consigliere is a web app platform that utilizes machine learning to work alongside influencers, offering unprecedented solutions to improve viewer retention rates. “We master viewer retention and click through rate for creators who don’t have the time to,” said Richard. Oftentimes, newer creators find it challenging to determine the exact formula for the highest retention rate; Consigliere aims to serve as an impartial tool to guide these creators in their digital space journey.
Jumpstart provides Richard structure and confidence to continue working on his startup, while ensuring Consigliere’s progression to the next level. “Jumpstart has helped me learn so much more on how to run a business, and what are the steps you need to take to make sure your business is going to make it,” shared Richard.
Looking ahead, Richard hopes to utilize this technology for larger platforms such as TV, broadcasting and various advertisement spots. Richard shared that once the framework for this technology in the digital creator space is set in place, the Consigliere team can hopefully advise the entire video making process moving forward.
Stay tuned for the launch of Consigliere’s web app!
