One of the most common barriers student founders face while incubating at The Garage is finding teammates to help them execute their vision. Whether they’re looking for technical help, a co-founder, or marketing support – we’re excited to facilitate those connections with our popular quarterly event, Startup Matchmaking. This virtual event offers Northwestern students who are interested in joining the startup community the opportunity to meet one-on-one with student founders via Zoom. We encourage students from across Northwestern to participate – regardless of school or level of study.

On October 6th, 2022, 30+ student-founded startups took 60 seconds each to share about their company, their goals, and the kind of help they are looking for. These rapid-fire pitches are also recorded and re-posted to YouTube, which means students can still participate even if they missed the event! You can watch this quarter’s live stream below.

With over 150 Northwestern students in attendance, we’re expecting we’ll be welcoming many new students to The Garage’s vibrant community!

Izzy Mokotoff, Co-Founder of Resident team SteadyScrib, shared that “startup matchmaking helped us find a larger community that is passionate about working toward our venture’s larger goals and visions — the SteadyScrib team is so grateful that The Garage staff put together this event!”

Members of the Residency program weren't the only ones to find excited students to join their ventures - founders in the Tinker program also found success in recruiting new teammates. “Not only did I find people interested in my project, but being forced to condense my pitch to one minute made it easier to find more recruits outside of the event,” said Zachary Braffman, Founder of ZR Film Group.

Startup Matchmaking is a quarterly event. Students who pitch must be part of The Garage’s Residency or Tinker program, but all Northwestern students are encouraged to attend. If you missed this quarter’s event, our next Startup Matchmaking event will be held during the winter quarter. Stay tuned!

Students who join a startup incubating at The Garage receive some of our best perks including access to our resources and mentorship. If you have an idea you’d like to work on, our Tinker program is open for sign ups during the entire academic year. Learn more about the Tinker program here.
