The Garage’s pre-accelerator program, Jumpstart, is currently in full swing. Ten teams participate in a variety of workshops, connect with mentors, and support each other as they build their startups. Running for 10 weeks, Jumpstart awards each team with $10,000 of non-dilutive funds. At the end of the program, The Garage hosts Demo Day, an event where teams compete for an additional prize pool of $10,000.

The Garage recently had the opportunity to speak with Jumpstart participant Alex Bahram, founder and CEO of JupiterDX, to learn more about his entrepreneurial journey and the company. Alex has always had an interest in healthcare, and upon entering Northwestern, was debating whether he wanted to pursue medical school or stay on the business side of healthcare. In June of 2020, Alex had the opportunity to work at a new startup, SummerBio. SummerBio is a high-throughput COVID-19 testing center in California that developed processes to handle tens of thousands of COVID-19 tests per day during the pandemic.

After a summer of work with the company, Alex was offered a full-time position running their hardware supply chain. “Throughout my time there I had the great opportunity to stay interactive on the business side of things, which I really like, but also have a profound impact in the day-to-day operation of people’s lives through providing this quick and cheap COVID testing."

After arriving at Northwestern, Alex wanted to continue pursuing this mission of exploring the big picture while still helping individuals. From there, JupiterDX was born. “At JupiterDX, we give patients control of their personal healthcare data. Patients struggling with chronic illnesses have to handle so much information from so many different places. With JupiterDX we are hoping to make that journey easier by creating one central location for all healthcare data, from doctor visits to smartwatch data,” shared Alex.

Working with Alex this summer is Gleb Blekher. Gleb is a recent addition to the team working as a business development associate. Gleb shares Alex’s passion for healthcare and works alongside him with a focus on sales and marketing.

Through the daily workshops and collaboration with other Jumpstart members, the team has been able to look at the problem from different angles, allowing for further development of their solution.
