Hearing aids are an essential health care product that reduce the impact of hearing impairment and loss. Despite numerous technological advancements in audio processing, many hearing aids still adhere to traditional forms and functionalities. Abhijit Roy, SoC & TGS ‘25, founder of KosiSonic, aims to amplify the capabilities of hearing aids in a progressive and unprecedented style.

While researching at Northwestern's Hearing Aid Lab, Abhijit identified the problems of high costs and insufficient functionality in today’s hearing aid market. Current offerings often fall short of meeting consumers' needs effectively, despite their high expense.

After spending time conducting hearing loss research in India, Abhijit realized that hearing aids were of high expense relative to their universal necessity. “The motivation for KosiSonic is to provide hearing solutions that are accessible, cheaper and functioning at a level that justifies the price they are being charged for,” shared Abhijit.

Joined by Sebnem Dundar, SoC & TGS ‘25 and Emre Erashin, McCormick & Weinberg ‘27, Abhijit and the KosiSonic team are working to produce a superior product in hearing technology, surpassing traditional standards in structure, fit, and efficiency.

KosiSonic produces hearing aid software that enhances existing hardware and functionality. “KosiSonic is disrupting the audio industry by providing novel solutions to old problems,” said Abhijit.

KosiSonic is currently targeting American and European markets while developing software and securing capital funding. Their broader goal is to serve hearing-impaired populations in underdeveloped countries, offering solutions for underserved markets.

In the future, KosiSonic aims to pivot themselves at the cutting edge of audio technology, providing solutions to improve hearing worldwide. Abhijit shared, “Overall, I want KosiSonic to be a global concern. Wherever there is some kind of hearing impairment, the goal is that a KosiSonic solution is not far away.”

Abhijit noted that Jumpstart provides a genuine opportunity to launch yourself and your startup, saying that “at first it seems like such a large mountain to climb in terms of forming a company. But, the people here can actualize that and show you the steps on that mountain.”

By challenging the status quo of audio processing, KosiSonic aims to innovate beyond traditional methods of hearing aid technology and provide solutions to enhance comfort, processing speed, and overall hearing aid outcomes. Looking ahead, Abhijit envisions KosiSonic becoming the preferred choice for enhancing the sound experience of customers worldwide.
